International masterclass in choir conducting under leadership of professor Boris Abalyan.
Russian choir conductor and teacher. The founder, artistic director and conductor of the chamber choir LEGE ARTIS. His bright artistic talent, successful concert career and participation in many major All-Russia and foreign choir competitions allowed him to gain the reputation of one of the most famous and influential choir conductors of our times. Under the conduction of Boris Abalyan the choir has recorded more than 20 CDs in collaboration with the recording labels Sony Classical, Mazur Media GmbH, and the musical alliance Northern Flowers. As a result of the collaboration with the medieval music researchers from the department of Old Russian singing of Saint Petersburg conservatory the choir recorded two CDs of Old Russian music. At present the honoured worker of arts of Russia Boris Abalyan has been teaching conducting at Saint Petersburg conservatory and at Music College named after N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov. His students are the laureates of international competitions and conduct many well-known Saint Petersburg choirs. Boris Abalyan gives masterclasses in the countries of western Europe and in the USA, and is the chief conductor of the choir «Gracias choir» (South Korea). A member of the jury of many major international competitions.

Terms and conditions :
Dear university and conservatory students and graduates, who have been studying choral conducting. We invite you to take part in the masterclass. Our goal is to improve professional skills of score analysis and interpretation, conducting technique as well as the rehearsal and choir concert practice skills.
Masterclass will consist of three parts:
• Working with a teacher and an accompanist
• Rehearsals with the chamber choir «Festino»
• Closing concert

Programm:
The masterclass programm includes music of three different music styles:
• the Medieval Russian Orthodoxal chant
• modern music of Saint-Petersburg composers
• modern music of European composers
Scores will be available for download at the website. Every participant will have an opportunity of working with one composing from each group The composings will be decided by lots.


The preliminary selection of participants. Application.
We invite the choral conductors aged 18 -40 years old, who are getting or already has a higher education degree. Both active and passive involvement is provided. Number of active participants: 6 participants. Possible number of passive participants is not limited.
Languages: Russian and English You can visit any masterclass events for free including the final concert.
The preliminary selection of participants will be based on:

• A rehersal or concert video (10-15 min duration, recorded after 1 January, 2016
You can send your requests from 15 April, 2017 till 10 July, 2017.
The list of active participants will be announced not later than 15 July, 2017.
Admission fee:
All the participants approved for active participation have to pay an admission fee (6000 rub)
Accommodation:
We provide all the participants with the accommodation in Saint-Petersburg during the period of masterclass.
