Preparatory workshops for Gustav Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand in Poland
Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Choristers,
The Chórtownia Foundation is delighted to invite you to participate in a unique project that has never been seen in Poland before!
As part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian Philharmonic, on May 24, 2025, Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 in E flat major, known as the "Symphony of a Thousand", will be performed in Katowice for the first time in Poland by such a large ensemble. This monumental work will gather 1,000 Artists on one stage, including singers from several invited Silesian choirs, a large symphony orchestra and soloists.
We would like to invite you to participate in this event as members of the Chórtownia Workshop Choir, which we are creating especially for the needs of this extraordinary project.
How to join?
The key stage of preparations will be the choral workshops, which will take place on March 7-9, 2025 in Gliwice. These workshops will allow you to prepare for the performance of the Symphony of a Thousand under the supervision of excellent choirmasters. It is also a chance to develop vocal skills, integrate and experience working on a rarely performed, outstanding work.Chórtownia Workshop Choir will perform the part of the SECOND CHOIR!
Exact dates:
15 Feb 2025 - deadline for preparatory workshop registration7-9 March 2025 - preparatory workshop in Gliwice
20 March 2025 - tutti rehearsal in Katowice (not obligatory for participants from abroad under specific circumstances, plus this date may change!)
23 May 2025 - tutti rehearsal in Katowice
24 May 2025 - concert in Spodek in Katowice
We invite also for optional, additional workshop at the Silesian Philharmonic Concert Hall on February 16, 2025, from 16:00 to 17:15. The topic will be "German Stage Pronunciation in Singing," focusing on the example of Gustav Mahler's 8th Symphony, and the leading persow will be Jarosław Wolanin, the conductor of Silesian Philharmonic Choir.
